September 6, 2008
Dear ISCAR Members and 2008 Congress Participants:
This note is to inform you about a new and exciting way to experience ISCAR 2008. If you are unable to attend the Congress or want to experience it in a special way, we will be broadcasting 5 panel presentations in Second Life (SL)—4 live and one in SL—through the auspices of San Jose State University’s School of Library and Information Science (SLIS); SLIS will provide the facilities—i.e. Island in Second Life. By creating one’s own avatar (or virtual representation of self), individuals will have the facility to interact within the conference space and the larger world and to connect and integrate with those in attendance
and those who are not. Using this virtual space will provide insights into the influence of the upcoming Congress and its part in the larger project of ISCAR.
Proposed Congress Activities to be hosted in Second Life:
• Presentations, Talks, and Lectures
• Discussion Sessions and Chats Hosted by Featured Scholars
• Opportunities to Meet and Interact Informally
• A Presentation in Second Life Presented at the Live Conference
• We will document some of the activities to evaluate assertions of impact
To participate, before the Congress, interested individuals will need to:
